WHAT IS THE PROSTATE?

The prostate is a male gland, located below the urinary bladder, and in front of the terminal section of the rectum.
The prostate has the shape and the size of a chestnut. From birth, it constantly grows until puberty, when it abruptly increases its size, reaching its normal size and shape. Until the mid-40s the average weight of the prostate is 15 – 25 grams, while its approximate dimensions are 3.5 x 4.5 x 2.5 cm. After this period, the prostate again begins to grow due to cell multiplication, called adenoma, benign hyperplasia or benign prostate enlargement.

La próstata se compone principalmente de tejido muscular y glandular, y la uretra pasa a través de él.

The main function of the prostate is to produce a liquid that forms part of sperm. Prostate products form part of the ejaculate (sperm). Semen contains substances (prostaglandins, immunoglobulins, spermine, fructose, citric acid, various enzymes, etc.) that have various biological actions.
Statistics have shown that of all male internal organs, the prostate is most prone to disease. According to a World Health Organization report, 50-70% of men over 60 years of age suffer from diseases of the prostate. The most frequent diseases of the prostate are benign prostate hyperplasia (prostate enlargement) and prostate inflammation (prostatitis).

BENIGN PROSTATE HYPERPLASIA

Benign prostate hyperplasia (prostate enlargement) is the most common urological disease of older men. As prostate hyperplasia develops, pressure on the urethra (the tube leading urine out of the bladder) and its gradual narrowing develop, which results in numerous unpleasant and disturbing symptoms.

In the initial phases of the disease more frequent urination and urgency to urinate appear..

Later, urination requires effort, the urine stream is weaker, and the need to urinate during the night appears. Increasingly, there is a sense of insufficient voiding, and finally there is also retention, i.e. complete urinary retention. Due to excessive urine retention, the bladder is overextended with just a few drops of urine overflowing every few minutes.

Prostate enlargement usually begins after 30 years of age, the first symptoms becoming evident after 50 years of age.

Problems due to benign prostate hyperplasia occur in approximately 50% of men aged 51-60, and in approximately 90% of men over 80 years of age.s.a.

Serious complications include urinary tract infections and complete blockage of the urethra, requiring urgent medical intervention. In addition, due to prostate enlargement, many men experience pain during sexual intercourse and problems with potency.

AN ENLARGED PROSTATE LEADS TO:

  • Slower or delayed urination
  • More difficult bladder emptying
  • Decreased urine flow
  • Frequent urination (especially during the night)
  • Urgency to urinate
  • Inability to hold urine and its flow
  • Pain during urination
  • Urine retention
  • Problems with potency

HOW AFRICAN PLUM FORTE CAN HELP?

African Plum regulates prostate function. It is recommended in prostatitis for its anti-inflammatory effect on prostate tissue

A clinical trial was designed to evaluate the efficacy of African Plum extract in patients suffering from prostate hypertrophy or chronic prostatitis. For 60 days, 18 patients were administered 200 mg of African Plum.

Because of the high association between sexual problems and these two diseases, the study was expanded and sexual functions were also investigated. There were no undesirable effects during treatment. Urinary problems were evaluated based on case history and ultrasound scanning of the prostate. Sexual problems were evaluated based on case history and NPTR monitoring. It was shown that African Plum extract improved all parameters related to the investigation of urinary symptoms, while prostate ultrasound showed a decrease of periurethral edema. In addition, significant improvement of sexual functions was also demonstrated.

In one of the larger, placebo controlled, double blind clinical trials, 100 mg daily of African Plum extract were administered during 60 days.

  • Urine flow improved by: 17.2% 17.2%
  • Voiding volume improved by: 12% 12%
  • Residual urine decreased by: 24.5% 24.5%
  • Nocturnal urination decreased by: 31% 31%
  • Frequency of daily voiding decreased by: 19.4% 19.4%

PROSTATE INFLAMMATION (Prostatitis)

Prostate inflammation is a common disease affecting 10 – 15% of men at least once during their lifetime. Symptoms, in their mildest form, are unpleasant, and severe pain also usually appears.

There are several different causes of prostate inflammation, and sometimes several factors are simultaneously responsible for the onset of inflammation. The most frequent causes are bacterial infections, autoimmune diseases and injuries (neuromuscular or mechanical). Somewhat less frequently, causes can be gout, a prostate stone, narrowing of the urethra, tumors, benign prostate hyperplasia, food allergy, fungal infections, viral infections.

Certain states or medical procedures increase the risk of this disease, e.g. catheter placement, long term abstination from urination, urinary tract infection, urinary tract abnormalities, enlarged prostate, urination disorders, urinary tract injuries, anal sex, uncontrolled sexual activity, frequent masturbation, stress, excessive alcohol consumption.

Symptoms of acute prostate inflammation hane an abrupt onset. Pain in the region of and behind the penis, pain in the lower abdomen and lower back, difficult urination, frequent urination of minor quantities of urine, especially during the night, purulent or bloody discharge from the urethra, fatigue, elevated temperature, can appear. If there is prostate swelling, this additionally hinders urine flow, causing urine retention and urine accumulation in the bladder. The prostate is almost always enlarged.

Chronic inflammation of the prostate means a long term course of the infection and a disease lasting over three weeks. It is characterized by moderate pain under and behind the penis, in the lower back, difficulty to urinate with small quantities of urine, scant bloody or purulent discharge from the urethra. Fatigue, burning, painful ejaculation, and even impotence can appear. The prostate can be enlarged or reduced in size and hard. Quite often the only symptom of chronic prostate inflammation is recurrent bladder infection.

Serious complications include urinary tract infections and complete blockage of the urethra, requiring urgent medical intervention. In addition, due to prostate enlargement, many men experience pain during sexual intercourse and problems with potency.

HOW AFRICAN PLUM FORTE CAN HELP?

African Plum bark extract is in use in Europe to treat benign prostate hyperplasia since the mid 1960s.

In the initial phases of the disease more frequent urination and urgency to urinate appear.

African Plum is recommended and can help to:

  • Slow down the process of hyperplasia and reduce prostate enlargement
  • Improve prostate function
  • Alleviate problems during urination (decrease frequency and facilitate urine elimination, and increase the quantity of urine eliminated)
  • Increase elasticity of the urinary bladder and decrease problems and discomfort resulting from incomplete voiding
  • Prevent urogenital infection
  • Decrease prostatic tissue inflammation
  • Enhance potency

An analysis of literature from the period from 1996 to 2000, when 18 randomized controlled trials were performed, encompassing 1562 men, concluded that compared to placebo, African Plum significantly improves urological symptoms and the flow of liquids. Among subjects using African Plum, there were twice as many who reported an improvement..

AFRICAN PLUM EXTRACT CAN HELP TO:

Reduce prostate tissue inflammation
Alleviate urination problems
Increase the elasticity of the bladder
Prevent infections of urogenital organs
decrease problems and discomfort resulting from incomplete voiding
Enhance potency

Does prostate enlargement cause impotence?

A study performed in America and six European countries on approximately 14,000 men, aged 50 to 80 years, demonstrated a strong link between benign prostatic hyperplasia and urinary problems or erectile dysfunction. 50% of all subjects reported sexual function difficulties, and 10% complete impotence.
